Connor McDavid won the Art Ross and Hart trophies this past season.

In the previous two games against the Maple Leafs and Matthews, McDavid had a goal and an assist. has not been held pointless in back-to-back games this season. McDavid has eight multi-point games this season and the team is 6-2-0 in those games.

They didn’t look young or out of place while knocking the defending Western Conference champions out of the playoffs in Round 1. And they certainly didn’t seem overwhelmed while opening a series against a Ducks team replete with Cup-winners, All-Stars, Olympians and world champions. So maybe, just maybe, McDavid knows what he’s talking about when he says this team is built for this stage.

McDavid followed Eberle’s orders last season. His review: “It was great. It was hilarious. It was really, really funny. I like the whole opening scene when he’s talking about how hungover he is.” At least McDavid has an excuse. “Actually, my parents never wanted me to see it when I was a kid,” McDavid said. “By then all of my buddies had seen it, and they didn’t want to watch it again. We did spend a lot of time on the bus, and they always played it on the bus, but I never really paid attention to it.”

The Buffalo Sabres have shown so far this season that they’re still a ways away, perhaps further than we thought. I firmly believe that McDavid is going to hoist at least a couple of Cups before his career is over, but it seems like the Oilers knocked themselves off course with some of their offseason moves the past few years. Matthews’ biggest competition will come from Laine and the Jets, who appear to be at a similar stage in their development as a franchise.

Forward Connor McDavid, who had the assist on Draisaitl’s goal, had the only shot on the power play for Edmonton. It was 29 months ago that McDavid was taken by the Edmonton Oilers with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and Eichel was selected at No. 2 by the Buffalo Sabres. They were viewed as franchise players, the foundations that would pave the way to a successful future for each team.

Said one scout who picked Matthews over McDavid: “It’s going to be fascinating to watch these guys go head to head over the next few years. We all know what McDavid is, but I think the ceiling for Matthews is unrealized.”

Connor McDavid has 11 goals and 32 points in 27 games. The Oilers Captain is averaging 1.19 points per game, tied for seventh in the League among players who have played 10 games or more. “We’ve built a good team here,” McDavid said. “Sure, it was just one year, but we’re on the right track.”

McDavid was the first overall pick of the 2015 draft and cheap nhl jerseys china  had 48 points in 45 games in 2015-16. His season was abbreviated by a broken collarbone.

The Oilers are also trying to sign McDavid’s teammate, Leon Draisaitl, to a long-term deal. Edmonton cleared cap space earlier in the offseason by trading Jordan Eberle to the New York Islanders. Draisaitl, who is a restricted free agent, was second on the team with 77 points last season.

The fact that both McDavid and Eichel will make a lot of money in their next deals isn’t up for much debate. But how they go about those contracts and how they could influence potential future RFAs is a major storyline going into this offseason — provided both players opt to sign extensions this summer.

Looking ahead to the third NHL game between Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid and Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews caused Oilers coach Todd McLellan to take a short detour onto memory lane.

But the start of the 2017-18 season has been tough for McDavid’s Oilers and Eichel’s Sabres, who have yet to reach the expectations lumped on them when training camps opened 10 weeks ago.

The Stanley Cup isn’t the only thing Connor McDavid wants. He also wants a shot at Olympic gold, and he’s frustrated that NHL players likely won’t get a chance to play in the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. McDavid will experience more ebbs and flows as he continues to develop. As the league adjusts to him, he’ll have to stay one step ahead.
